Canada Immigration uses Express Entry to manage applications for permanent residence for following programs:

There are two steps to apply to the Express Entry system:

Step 1: Submit an application for Express Entry, and the application will remain in the pool for 12 months. Getting into the pool doesn't mean that Canada Immigration will invite the applicant to apply for permanent residence. To be chosen from the pool the applicant needs to have one of the highest-ranking scores. If the applicant is invited, he/she can apply for permanent residence. The applicant will be ranked in the Express Entry pool using a points-based system called the Comprehensive Ranking

Step 2: Immigration invites the highest-ranking candidates in the pool to apply for permanent residence. The applicant must apply for permanent residence within 90 days. The applicant must meet eligibility and admissibility requirements under Canada's immigration law.

• Provincial Nominees Program

Most provinces and territories in Canada can nominate immigrants through the Provincial Nominee Program (PNP). These immigrants must have the skills, education and work experience to contribute to the economy of that province or territory, and must want to live there. The province of Quebec does not have a PNP. See their immigration website to learn more about their programs.
